PROTECT your Valuable
Crops
from animal browse damage
with Plantskydd®
Instructions for Row Crop Applications
Fruit trees, vegetables, watermelon, pumpkins,
cauliflower, blueberries, strawberries,
grapes, soy beans, etc.
1- TIMING: Timing is everything. The grower must have an idea when the pressure occurs on the plantation. In some cases, damage begins to occur right at emergence. In other cases, it is much later in the season, closer to harvest. Basically, the grower should endeavor to apply Plantskydd BEFORE the browse damage begins, not after it has started. It is more difficult to alter a mammal's behavior if it has been re-enforced positively.
2- GROWTH PHASE: During
the growth phase, use approx. 6 gal. of water per 2.2 lb package and spray
more frequently (e.g.: every 4 to 6 weeks.) Experiment with dilution
rates and frequency of application until you have achieved control.
Once you have achieved control, save time and money by spraying the perimeter
of your crop or using more water. Some growers report achieving control
by using 10 to 20 gallons per 2.2 Lb package. Schedule frequent re-entry
intervals to randomly check for signs of damage. Browse pressure
is highly variable as it depends on the species of animal, plant, geography,
weather, etc.

your situation.
3- MATURITY/DORMANCY: Once plants have reached maturity, or are dormant over winter, Plantskydd can provide protection for 3-4 months in summer and up to six months over winter (at highest concentrations). On crops such as water melons and pumpkins, a single application using 3 x more water (6 gal./2.2lbs dose) and spraying liberally will control the browse damage on the crop for approximately one month.
4- COVERAGE: 1 Gal. will treat 2,000 to 4,000 sq. ft. and 10-20 Gal. will treat 1 acre (depending on browse pressure. On some types of plants, spreader-stickers will improve coverage.
5- FRUIT TREES: Frequently, it is over winter that browsing occurs on fruit trees and the concern seems to be for juvenile trees. In this case, dip a gloved hand (wear a latex glove with a cotton glove over it) into a solution of the product and grab the tips of the branches. Focus on the terminal leader (top branches). If the problem persists into spring, wait until after leaf-out and spray mostly the top of the tree with a backpack or atomiser sprayer. Plantskydd is also very effective in protecting trees from buck rub: spray bark of tree between the 2 and 4 ft. mark.
Note: We do not recommend spraying fruit or vegetables directly as taste may be altered. Plantskydd's vegetable oil binder is tenacious in sticking to plant material and will not wash off easily. However, because the product works by emitting an odor animals associate with predators, most damage can be avoided if the plants are treated during the growth phase until just before flowering. Do not treat blossoms as this may interfere with pollination.
